It’s Chuseok!
It’s that time of year when the weather begins to turn into what is arguably Korea’s best season. Gone are the rains, the mosquitoes, while the heat turns bearable and nights become cool, allowing for a better night’s sleep. Depending on the path of the moon, Chuseok always falls on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar each year. Originally known as Hangawi, Chuseok is Korea’s traditional harvest festival.
What are you going to do this Chuseok?
Nowadays, there’s always a mass exodus of Koreans leaving their current place of residence and returning to their hometown or village to join their family and to pay their respects. Highways are packed, cross-country bus and train stations are chaotic, and tickets for said buses and trains are absolutely, positively sold out.
Still no plans yet on Chuseok in the empty city?
Those empty pizza boxes, chicken boxes with bones still in them or whatever kind of thing that may be growing in your sink. No a lonely, sad Chuseok!

Gangwha-do is located 2 hours far from Seoul by bus. There is Poongmul market which is the local traditional remaining market. I’v working for revitalization of local community market through traveling. I would like to invite you to this market and experience real local and enjoy the biggest traditional holiday.
Eat and learn how to cook Korean traditional Chuseok food - Songpyen, Susu Bykkumi, Radish kimchi
During Chuseok, it is common for families to gather together to make one of the representative foods of the holiday. It also brings everyone together to re-connect with each other and live happily in the moment. You can learn the real way of cooking from the local mothers who are actually the local vendors at Poongmul market and try Chuseok dishes.
Play and enjoy Korean traditional game like Yut Nori and Ganggangsuwellae with local friends!
During Chuseok, Korean sit together with all the family members and play game. This is another way to reconnect with each other. You can learn how to play Yut Nori which is the traditional board game and GangGangsuellae, a circle dance like locals!
